I've been patronising Jing Chew coffee shop since I was a child. Those days it was situated in Bandar behind the HSBC building. My parents used to take me for breakfast there before sending me off to school. Now, located somewhere in Gadong, Jing Chew is still one of my favourite breakfast spot despite it's hectic environment. For us the Sharp-Shooters, this is the pre or post-outing assembly point where we fuel ourselves with coffee and Roti Kuning Kawin before hitting the battlefield. On such occasions, we will need a long table, now it's getting longer and longer.

Look What They Did! Part 2
A week has passed after my incident with the BG-registered police vehicle, today my brother's car was hit by an off-duty policeman (good he was using his own car) who was moving from his parking spot while busy sms-ing. Clearly, using a handphone or any communication device while driving, the so-called "law enforcer" *roll eyes* could be slapped with a fine of $1000 or 3 months imprisonment for the first offence. Well, let the court judge on that, when? Maybe in few hundred years time!

the impact mis-aligned the tyre...

Many people might not recognise, this is one of the place where gravel for Brunei's construction industry are processed and produced. They are shipped to this place on big barges from some place I'm not even sure where, Temburong I think.

It was a hot and stuffy day, the sun was harsh, not a good day for photo-outing. But I'm sure a dip in the cool waters would be just nice.

One of my favourite childhood legend was the story of Nakhoda Manis who denied her mother upon his return from a long voyage in seek of fortune. Disappointed, his mother cursed Nakhoda Manis and his entire ship turned to stone. This unverifiably remains of the stone boat can still be seen on the west side of Brunei River now known as Jong Batu island, literally means the stone junk. When I was a kid, I can see this small rock island from my mother's 5th floor office. Yesterday during our proboscis monkey hunt, for the first time in my life, I had the opportunity to behold this legendary island from a stone throw away.
The structure of the island was indeed like a ship fallen to it's starboard side, hence perhaps thats how the tale came about which was passed on to many generations. Anyway, check out The Daily Brunei Resources for more coverage and photos of Jong Batu. Yes we posted the same topic today, apparently Mr. BR visitted the island last Tuesday and my post today is BR-ish style and might beat the purpose of photography :) Mr. BR, hope you don't mind bro, legends like this are just my favourites.

There's another mythical island on the east side of Brunei River called the Lumut Lunting. Legend has it that during the reign of Sultan Muhammad or Awang Alak Betatar, the first Sultan of Brunei, there was a cock-fight between Asmara, an undefeated cockerel owned by a Majapahit minister, and Mutiara, owned by Sultan Muhammad's nephew. Asmara lost, this angered the Queen of Majapahit who then cursed Mutiara into stone, hence became the Lumut Lunting.
This photo was taken during our first Roda Impian excursion in January. I've posted this picture before, however I didn't see any resemblance of a chicken though.

We boatjacked the Roda Impian boat again this morning, this time cruising the west side of Brunei River, embarked on a mission called Ops Bangkatan. Bangkatan is the local name for long-nosed Proboscis monkey. We switched to silent mode, all that can be heard was the cackles of the reddish-brown monkeys and the clicks of our shutters. not only we searched for the Proboscis monkeys, we were on a bird hunt too..

We tried to look for crocodiles upstream Bengkurong river, but all we found was this.. a species called Proboscis EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM.

p/s Further reports from the mission, check out Bruneian, Zadm, SoulJah, Klick With Aku, Airbiscuit and Sinadam.
